Your Jewelry Appraisal Destination
For many of us, the value of our jewelry goes far beyond its monetary worth. Whether inherited, gifted, or self-purchased, our jewelry tells the story of our lives. Having your jewelry professionally appraised provides a documented record of its value, which is important for many reasons, including:
The need to properly insure your possessions.
A desire to resell your pieces
At Razny Jewelers, we provide a professional appraisal from a graduate gemologist.
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) recommends obtaining an appraisal every 2 to 3 years and advises, “If the appraisal is for insurance purposes, check with your insurance company for any update requirements.”
This advice ensures you’re never found without an appraisal when needed. Also, the market value for gemstones and metals fluctuates. Having an up-to-date appraisal is a pragmatic approach to jewelry ownership.
Gemological knowledge is a key qualification when selecting an appraiser. This education provides the necessary understanding of how jewelers make jewelry and how to properly examine and evaluate your gems.
At Razny Jewelers, our gemological training spans over seven decades and three generations. In addition to the Razny family, our skilled appraisers are GIA graduate gemologists. Our company and appraisal team are also affiliated with the American Gem Society. We provide first-class dependability, coupled with the care and concern that only a family of jewelers can offer.
At Razny Jewelers, we exclusively work with and appraise natural diamonds, ensuring that every piece we handle aligns with our high standards for quality, rarity, and sustainability. We do not appraise lab-grown or simulated diamonds as they do not hold the same lasting value or contribute to the communities we support.

Appraisals can take up to two weeks for fewer than five items. For more than five items, appraisals can take up to three weeks. For 10 items or more, appraisals can take four weeks or longer.
The appraiser will provide a detailed description of the item(s), including the type of metal and content, the grading of diamonds or gemstones, the identification of stones, any damage, and the current market value (which depends on the type of appraisal).
Not exactly. While our team can provide detailed appraisals that may resemble a diamond grading report, a true grading report, such as one from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), can only be issued when the diamond is loose, not set in jewelry. This is because a set stone limits the ability to evaluate certain precise characteristics.
In contrast, appraisals are based on professional estimates and calculations. Appraisals serve a different purpose, often for insurance or valuation, and are not a substitute for a formal grading report.
The first appraisal at Razny is $100. Appraisals for each additional item are $85. Appraisals previously completed by Razny can be updated later for $35.
No. At Razny Jewelers, we exclusively work with and appraise natural diamonds. Lab-grown or simulated stones do not hold the same enduring value or meet our standards for rarity, quality, and sustainability.
